SAILING - DRASCOMBE – Blackwater and Colne Estuaries

1. Drowning Fatality Life jacket or buoyancy aid to be worn.

Operating area within Cat C water - West of a line between Sales Point and the

South Western tip of Mersea Island.

Maximum numbers that are permitted on any craft should not be exceeded and

consideration should be given to the total weight of passengers

2. Hypothermia Major Injury Warm, windproof clothing to be worn and spare clothing available if conditions /

forecasted conditions dictate.

3. May Day situation Fatality Before setting out, the skipper must have ascertained the weather and sea state

forecast for the area, tidal currents and times, and any hazards pertinent.

Safety equipment carried onboard to include:

 Anchor, chain and warp.

 Buckets.

 VHF radio and GPS.

 Distress flares – orange smoke and pinpoint red.

 Charts and compass.

 Fog horn.

 Thermal protective aids.

 Tool Kit.

 Fire extinguisher.

 Throw line.

 Mobile phone.
